PIXIE’S REVIEW: This is a brilliant steampunk story that is fascinating from the first page. It begins with Max’s backstory, showing us what happens to him before he flees Germany it then switches to 2 years later to Jasper being approached an then on to the convention where Max and Jasper finally meet. And then we enjoy a rousing story as we are pulled into a world where the occult meets science.

Not only do we delve into the fascinating world of inventions but we also have a dash of the occult from Jasper’s sister Octavia, it’s wonderful the way that Jasper and Max’s invention was interwoven with Octavia’s occult invention and the stunning effects that resulted.

Max and Jasper’s relationship was wonderfully written for the time of 1910; it has the old world feel to it and is an absolute delight. They connect on both an intellectual and physical level and are a perfect foil for each other, I must admit to hoping that there will be further stories with Max and Jasper because the world they come from is just fascinating.

I recommend this to those who adore steampunk, gentle love stories, brilliant characters, interesting storylines and happy endings.

Thank you, Pixie, for this wonderful review, and for everything you do to bring readers and writers together.

Another 5-star review for RE-INVENTING LOVE!

Another 5-star review for Re-Inventing Love, this one from fellow m/m author Sarah Madison. That’s high praise indeed.

I just finished reading Storm Grant’s steampunk M/M romance, Re-Inventing Love. What a delightful story! The leads had delicious chemistry in their mutual bonding over science and were adorable in their geekiness. I especially appreciated the real difficulties they had in pursuing a relationship due to the laws of the time and the censure of society. So frequently in romances, the conflict keeping the lovers apart seems manufactured, but in this case, there were multiple, layered reasons for why Jasper and Max tried to ignore the attraction between them.

I also enjoyed the fact that the women characters in supporting roles were, each in their own way, remarkable for their strength and intelligence. The world-building was sublime, with a subtle combination of many of the interests of the day, including spiritualism and scientific invention. The historical detail was cleverly woven into the story as well. I’m a fan of the television show, the Murdoch Mysteries and thought Re-Inventing Love had that sort of vibe to it, so I was tickled when the author mentioned in the end notes that the show had been an inspiration for the novel.

Just when I thought I was reading a charming story about two men finding love after being betrayed and disappointed in their lives, the story took a dramatic turn that had me glued to the pages to find out what happened next. I wasn’t disappointed! This is my first Storm Grant story, but it won’t be my last.

Thank you so very kindly, Sarah.

I’m noticing a slight similarity. You?

This is because I purchased the rights to that art after commissioning it exclusively for the book. I had gone on to Deviant Art and run a “bake off” by posting that I’d pay $100 to anyone who came up with a great cover for my book. Now this was 2008 so I had no idea what to offer. Several artists tendered drawings, and I loved this one by Miss Martinez. Once we had the final artwork, she signed a release and I sent her a cheque for $150. I was that pleased.

Deana C. Jamroz dropped in the titles for the MLR version, which looked great!

Now, my new fave cover artist, Willsin Rowe, reworked the titles to include the nifty new identifying banner he’d designed and now we have… ta da! A same-only-different cover for the re-release.

The text has been edited a little… and proofed a lot.
